Members of the DPG working group "Epithelia and Transport Physiology" are interested in the physiology of epithelia and in membrane transport mechanisms involved in cellular homeostatic control. Organs like kidney and gastrointestinal tract as well as cellular processes of pH regulation and cell volume control are in focus. The scientific spectrum starts at the molecular level of membrane transport proteins like ion channels, carriers, tight junction proteins and pumps. Furthermore it covers cellular regulation of epithelial function and expands to systemic and integrative control of epithelial organs to maintain balance and homeostasis of the whole organism. Of special interest is pathophysiology, clinics and therapeutical options for the treatment of epithelial diseases.
